Since his magnificent live album Captured Alive , we have been impatiently waiting for Mr. Faulkner to return to the studio. Thing done, and here we are in the presence of a worthy and consistent successor to Caboose and Shards of Aureole . There are a few parodies there ( Cherche l'idole , Karaoke ), our national curmudgeon making even more ironic remarks about a pop nightmare about which he complained so much. But to this just derision are added chronicles and ballads which remind us what a major author we are dealing with. Surrounded by a country-rock troupe that suits him like a cowboy's boots, "Cassonade" proves to be at its peak, whether he calls upon the whole orchestra or whether he delivers his poetry to us in a more naked way ( At the edge of the canal , Gas in my tank ). – Thierry Bissonnette (See.ca)
