Collection: The Roommates
Led by the charismatic singer André “Dédé” Fortin and guitarist Mike Sawatzy , Les Colocs is Quebec's most emblematic pop-rock group of the 1990s, both for its protest themes and its fusion of musical genres. Influenced by swing, country and reggae, with incisive lyrics tinged with humor à la Plume Latraverse , the group enjoyed immense success with its three cult albums ( Les Colocs , Atrocetomique and Dehors Novembre ), until suicide of Fortin, in 2000. She is still cited today for her poetic way of denouncing sociopolitical issues and for her integration of world music with pop, propelling the career of the Diouf brothers through the band. Les Colocs left their mark on a whole generation of committed groups like Les Cowboys Fringants .
